Catching Up

Syp over at Bio Break has seen an odd phenomenon that’s been proven time and time again: whenever he goes out of town or has to take a break from his blog for family/work-related reasons, all hell breaks loose in the MMO world. Thankfully I haven’t seen this happen at Battle Priestess yet, but while I was away there was actually a good bit of WoW-related news that came through my Google Reader.

Just in this morning: Worgen and Troll race changes will be available immediately upon launch. They’re removing the achievements for first worgen/troll to 85 and are limiting the realm-first achievements to classes only. This is excellent news for my 80 horde priest who has been sitting on the back burner for months; she can turn into a goblin that much sooner!

New Pre-Cataclysm Quests: I haven’t even had a chance to play through these yet, but it sounds like there’s about 2-3 additional quests, plus elementals are actually in the capital cities. I did get to play through the other pre-Cataclysm quests while on vacation. I’m enjoying the build-up to the main event so far, and I’m anticipating that things will get crazier as the weeks go by. I’m one of the odd birds that really liked the Scourge event before Wrath of the Lich King, so my tolerance for events that really cause chaos is very high.

New Community Site Launched: The new WoW news, blog, and forum site is up, and it’s pretty slick! The new color scheme is easier on the eyes and much cleaner than the old version. The forum avatars now actually use your character appearance and the gear that you last logged out in. But perhaps the biggest change is that all forum bans have been removed on the new forums, and everyone is able to start fresh. Be warned however: if you get an infraction on the new forums, they will reference your old infraction history when determining what action to take. So behave.

New Mini-Pets: Blizzard released the graphics for the Lil’ Ragnaros and Moonkin Hatchling pets. One word: awwwwwwwww! I probably won’t be getting the Lil’ Ragnaros, but the Moonkin Hatchling is a no-brainer, especially considering that part of the sales will go towards a charity. Last time they did this (with the Pandaren Monk) they donated $1.1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Insane in the Membrane is Slightly Less Insane: If all you have left for the Insane in the Membrane achievement is the Shen’dralar reputation, there is hope: it has been removed from the achievement in the current beta build. I’m hearing rumors that the Bloodsail Buccaneers, Steamwheedle, Darkmoon, and Ravenholdt reputations are still available and working (although some are changed a bit) in the beta, and if that’s the case, The Insane may still be doable in Cataclysm. But until we hear something confirmed from Blizzard, take this news with a grain of salt.
